Redon是19世纪末的法国艺术圈里极具影响力的艺术家，他早年作品的画面几乎全是黑色或者白色，后期受纳比派的影响绘制了许多颜色丰富的作品。他关注梦想、幻想和想象力的世界，作品里往往会出现超自然现象，他神秘的、如梦似幻的典型形象以高度代表性的方式出现在他想象中的场景里，他的作品也对后来的超现实主义有着深远影响。
